Shoot What You See – Part 2

1

‘There are no uninteresting things, only uninterested people’ - G.K. Chesterton

This quotation from G. K. Chesterton is as relevant today as it was when Chesterton was alive in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

I often feel that it is a sad reflection on our modern society that we have become so busy with our own lives that we stop paying attention to what is around us, a beautiful world just waiting to be discovered and explored.

And it’s a situation that is not good for our overall wellbeing.

I must admit that I am guilty of getting caught up in the ‘busy ness’ of life and becoming less and less observant. Photography has helped me to redress the balance, and I now make a genuine effort to be more observant, to pay more attention, to notice what is there to be seen.

Shoot What You See helps to develop your eye for an image. It actually helps us learn to see as we strip away expectations and our desire to see the ‘right’ subject and begin to see things that are there all the time but that we often fail to notice.

I did a Shoot What You See session while on holiday in Portugal earlier in the year. I ventured off the beaten track and opted to create some images of less popular subjects and scenes.

One of the great advantages of doing Shoot What You See photography is that every time you go out you’ll see something different, and each time you’ll see even more.

The resulting images may not be the usual images that others take, but they will be uniquely yours.

Why not give Shoot What You See a try?
